MEHOP Continues Efforts To Meet Community Need
Our clinics and mobile COVID Team continue their efforts to meet the needs of Matagorda and Wharton Counties through their response to COVID-19.
During clinic hours, we provide COVID-19 testing at our Family Medicine and Pediatric locations in Bay City and Wharton. Our Family Medicine clinic in Bay City is open extended hours Monday – Friday 4pm – 8:30pm and on Saturday’s 7am-4pm and Sunday’s 8am-12pm. Our clinics do ask that patients continue to call ahead regarding testing and COVID-19 related symptoms, 979-245-2008. If a patient is uninsured, fee for service discounts are available based on household income for COVID related exams and lab services if required.
The majority of testing administered at MEHOP are PCR tests which are very accurate and sent to a lab for processing. In addition to PCR testing, rapid testing is available at our Family Medicine clinic in Bay City and will be added to our Pediatric clinic in Wharton the first part of 2022. The use of rapid testing vs. outside laboratory services is at the discretion of our medical providers at time of exam based on medical diagnosis and appropriateness of care.

On Tuesday, January 4th, our Mobile COVID Team will hold a Drive Up Community Testing event in Bay City from 10am-3pm. On-Line scheduling is available, but not required at https://mehop.org/covid-19-testing/ or by calling 979-479-6580. For those with insurance, the processing fee charged by the lab will be billed to their insurance carrier. If uninsured, a $50 lab fee will apply or as an alternative, lab fee discounts may be available based on household income by accessing testing through one of our Family Medicine or Pediatric locations.
In January, community vaccine clinics are scheduled for Matagorda and Wharton counties. There is no cost to receive the vaccine. If you are 18 years of age or older, you are eligible to receive a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Please bring your photo ID and if you are receiving a 2nd dose or booster bring your vaccine card. On-Line scheduling opens one week prior for each scheduled date and for each separate location. Walk-Ins welcome or save time by scheduling in advance at https://mehop.org/covid-19-vaccine/ or calling 979-479-6580.
