MEHOP Welcomes Tho Nguyen, FNP-C

We begin the new year by welcoming Tho Nguyen, MSN, APRN, FNP-C to MEHOP Family Medicine in Bay City. Tho will begin seeing patients January 4, 2021. 

Prior to receiving her Masters of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Cizik School of Nursing, Tho was a Registered Nurse (RN) with Memorial Hermann Hospital in Katy. 

“When I first read about MEHOP, I was excited about how they help serve the community”, said Tho. “I highly value the aspect of serving all populations with and without insurance as I believe everyone has a right to proper and compassionate health care”. 

MEHOP is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that serves patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. We accept private/employer-based insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid and offers fee for service discounts based on household size and income.

MEHOP has provided primary health care services to Matagorda and Wharton Counties for over 20 years. These services currently include Family Medicine, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology, and Family Dental.  Enabling services are also provided such as health education, transportation to Bay City MEHOP appointments, prescription assistance and Case Management to assist with care coordination and advocacy to meet an individual’s and family’s health related needs through available resources.  

Growing up in a low-income family in Houston, Tho noticed the major economic, health, and healthcare disparities that occur. “My goal is to help increase health care knowledge with patients, who in turn can help themselves, families, and even communities by raising awareness about how important preventative healthcare truly is” said Tho. Being able to converse with patients in Vietnamese, Tho will have the ability to further remove barriers to healthcare for the community’s culturally and linguistically diverse population.
