MD Anderson Blood Drive Scheduled for June

MEHOP will host a community blood drive for MD Anderson on June 11th from 1pm-6pm at their Women and Children’s Center located at 111 Ave. F in Bay City.

“Blood donations are an essential need in our community, said Sheryl Dickerson, MD Anderson Community Representative. The MD Anderson Blood Bank relies on the kindness and generosity of volunteer blood donors to continue to meet this essential need which continues during these unprecedented times with COVID-19 – the need for blood never stops!”

Donors are required to register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/mehop0620  for whole blood or platelet donations and the schedule must be filled by May 28th. “Each unit donated will impact the life of an MD Anderson cancer patient and up to three cancer patients lives and their families will benefit from each unit donated, said Dickerson.’

In following current guidelines, donors will have their temperature taken before entering the donor coach, will be required to wear a mask (mask provided) while on the donor coach and also adhere to social distancing standards. Only 2 donors will be scheduled at a time.

All donors will be required to provide a photo ID, be in general good health, must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and not be pregnant. It is advised to eat a good hearty meal before a donation.
