Join us in congratulating Celeste Harrison, MEHOP CEO, on her recent appointments as Chairman of Civic Engagement for the Texas Association of Community Health Centers (TACHC) and Chairman of their Policy and Issues Committee.
Civic Engagement is the process of educating health center staff, patients, board members and community supporters to incite them to take action in support of our health centers in order to create a healthier Texas. Civic Engagement at health centers can take many forms, including:
- Educating yourself and others about important issues
- Writing to or visiting your local, state or federal elected representatives
- Writing letters to the editor or working with media to better inform your community
- Coming together with friends and neighbors to identify and solve community challenges and
- Perhaps most importantly voting in every election!
Engaging patients, staff and board members is key to the success of health centers. Our health centers are stronger when we have broad support from communities across the state and when patients are involved in advocating for their own health and the health of their community.
TACHC works to educate our patients on the issues affecting health centers and provide opportunities to get involved and make their voices heard.
The Policy and Issues Committee is responsible for providing guidance to TACHC Board and staff on positions regarding federal and state legislative and administrative policies.
We are proud of the continued work Mrs. Harrison does for MEHOP, our community, and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s) across Texas. If you are interested in learning more about Civic Engagement at MEHOP, Mrs. Harrison can be contacted at 979-245-2082.
