MEHOP raised $4,945.00 at its crawfish boil and bake sale on Friday April 5th. The proceeds will go towards the Nina Sicking Memorial Scholarship at Texas A& M – Corpus Christi (TAMU).

“Fundraising for Nina’s scholarship is an annual event for us” said Donna Huitt, Marketing Director, we have hosted various fundraising events over the years and this year our staff decided on a crawfish boil.” With almost 400 tickets sold and an almost near sell out of baked goods, MEHOP will be able to make another sizable contribution to the scholarship fund this year.

MEHOP established the scholarship in 2014 through TAMU in memory of their co-worker Nina Sicking who lost her battle with Cancer. Nina, a Family Nurse Practitioner, had a passion for helping others, particularly in diabetic education. She was a nurse and diabetic educator for many years with MEHOP and made the decision to further her education in 2010 to respond to the needs of MEHOP and the community.

The scholarship is managed by TAMU and benefits students from our region who would like to pursue a degree as a Nurse Practitioner. “Fundraising efforts are championed and executed by MEHOP staff, said Celeste Harrison, CEO, and I could not be prouder of their desire to give back to the community.”

MEHOP is a 501(c)3 non-profit, Federally Qualified Health Center with service sites in Bay City and Wharton.
